Explore Oregon’s Commercial Fisheries with Sea Grant
Join Oregon Sea Grant experts on a guided walk along the commercial docks in your local port. Come learn where to find local, in-season seafood, how it’s caught, and how to buy it directly from coastal ports. Discover what makes Oregon seafood sustainable, explore commercial fishing vessels and gear, and get a glimpse into the state’s vibrant fishing industry—you might even meet a fisherman or two!
No ticket necessary for Shop at the Dock Newport, tours are free and available on a first come, first served basis.
Dates:
Aug.: 7, 8, 14, 21, 28Sept.: 4, 5
TIme: Tours will start at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 10:30 a.m.
Location: Tours take place at Dock 5 at the Port of Newport on SW Bay Boulevard. For groups of 5 or more, please contact (541) 648-6816 ahead of time to make arrangements. Tours may be possible at additional times, as needed, for larger groups.
What to expect:
Each tour will be 60-90 minutes. Participants should expect to be walking or standing the entire tour. Total walking distance will be up to 1/2 mile.Dress for the weather.Comfortable, closed-toes shoes recommended. Docks can be slippery and move underfootWhat you'll get: Each participant will receive a complimentary gift tote bag with informational resources and local seafood products.
