Forest Tour Series: Explore Techniques to Limit Deer Browse in the Forest - Oct 2026

📅 16 October 2026
Join us for the next in our series of forest tours!
Our high population of white-tailed deer in Maine has high impacts on our forest ecosystems including damage to the understory and new growth of our woodlands. Landowners and foresrty professors Jessica Leahy and Bob Seymour of Wicopy Woods Tree Farm in Sebec have been taking proactive steps to mitigate damage including tree tubes, browse exclosures, and public hunting. This tour will explore their techniques and reflections so far, and might inspire you to try new techniques in the forest you steward. Wicopy Woods Tree Farm has over 50 years of stewardship, was recognized as Maine’s Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year in 1983 and 2020, and is a Forest Steward Guild Model Forest. This event is hosted by MOFGA, UMaine School of Forest Resources, and the Maine Forest Service.
