Join us at Emerson College for a one-day introduction to the fundamentals of biodynamic farming and gardening.

Throughout the day, you will explore the history of the biodynamic movement and the purpose behind biodynamic methods. The course will introduce key ideas, including Goethean observation, biodynamic preparations, the farm or garden as a living organism and working with cosmic rhythms and cycles.

Set within Emerson’s biodynamic landscape, this day course offers a grounded and accessible introduction for those interested in land-based learning, sustainable growing and a deeper relationship with the living world.

Facilitator: Nir Halfon – Biodynamic Land and Education Manager at Emerson College

Nir is passionate about biodynamic food, farming and sustainable living. He studied at Emerson College from 2001–2004 as part of the first cohort of the Biodynamic Training.

Since then, Nir has managed several biodynamic gardens and farms, most notably Old Plawhatch Farm, where he was Farm Director and Garden Manager from 2013-2020. He previously taught biodynamic farming and gardening at Emerson College from 2009-2012, and most recently worked as Programme Manager for Horticultural Apprenticeships at Plumpton College from 2020–2025.   He also holds a Permaculture Diploma and a Master’s in Environmental and Energy Studies.
